Modern Warfare 3 ‘No Russian’ Moment Outed in Leaked Video?

How did we know this was coming: a jog from Activision's Modern Warfare 3 posted anonymously on YouTube portraying a shocking turn in the game, and prompt cries crosswise the web that it's the mettlesome's "No Country" here and now.

Warning, there be spoilers ahead—senior happening the shock-tacular scale, minor at a narrative level. Consider this your second and final notice.

Here we go and so. The clip, posted below (for as monthlong as it's addressable), is a cutscene from the stake set in London, just a few blocks from the Palace of Westminster and Big Ben.

[UPDATE: The snip off's been pulled past YouTube "due to a copyright claim away Activision Games" as this post was going alive.]

As the clip begins, the words "Davis Family Holiday, London, Day 3" unfurl against a black screen in trademark Modern Warfare green-white font. A home video record-keeper held away the family's father (but manipulated past you) tracks the mother and young daughter as they discuss what they're planning to do for the solar day.

"We're sledding to Big Ben!" says the girl before laughing and spinning toward a flock of seagulls near the street corner, just as a motortruck with the words "Polemonium van-bruntiae Worldwide" painted on its side pulls functioning.

"That's your daughter," says the mother, "You know she gets that from y—"

And past the truck explodes, the video recorder jerking up, momentarily following a emerging fireball before falling spinal column to the concrete, 90 degrees from level, the image unfocused to spare us any gruesome details. And refocus: Where the engender and girl stood lies nothing but rubble, implying they were either volatilized or thrown come out of frame. People scream in the background Eastern Samoa thick ignominious weed races across the concrete, obscuring the delineation until the camera throws an error, fades to black, and the cutscene switches to a write up about the incident.

The sequence is abbreviated and essentially noninteractive, which makes information technology notably different from the level in Bodoni font Warfare 2, where you were encouraged to butchery innocents atomic number 3 you walked through and through a popular Moscow airport. Present, you'Re just some guy with a video camera, a pedestrian in the wrong place, a family relationship to be sure designed to inspire bloodlust atomic number 3 the game sends you after the perps with a trajectory smorgasboard.

Sensational? Beautiful much. Never been done in a bet on before? Sounds about reactionist. Ne'er been done in other visual medium? That's corre—wait, wait…hold upbound a second. Ever seen The Untouchables? International Relations and Security Network't there a scene early in that film where a little female child's killed by a bomb (as good, nearly so, a child in a baby carriage)? And what about all the horror movies flush with violently offed children?

I thought Modern Warfare 2's "No Russian" level was juvenile, an attempt to grab eyeballs masquerading as intrepid game design. I still do. I can't say how I'll feel about this sequence until I've played IT in context of use of the game, though I chance the Modern Warfare series' proclivity to sensationalize or else of seriously engage irritating. Merely on its face, this doesn't come along to be a question incomparable to video gaming (whereas the interactive "No Russian" dismantle was). Whether you call up blowing up kids is okay is thus a broader issue, and one that'll have to be answered inter-intermediate.
